Next PAGE
Next PAGE is a literacy nonprofit that offers trauma-informed creative writing workshops to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated youth in New York City. Our restorative, relationship-driven program helps participants build literacy, shape identity, and reclaim their narratives— in their own words and on their own terms.
We partner with Boldly Moving Education Ahead, Elizabeth & Minnie Publishing, and a team of child trauma experts to ensure holistic support: from nurturing learning environments to professional publishing and editorial opportunities. Together, we are creating equitable pathways for young people impacted by incarceration to develop their voices and share their stories.
In healing-centered sessions, participants build community, strengthen communication skills, and envision new possibilities. Our Editor Circle — volunteers from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Hearst Magazines — guides students through a trust-based, collaborative writing process led by top-tier professionals.
Opus 1 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 84-4029712), serves as the fiscal sponsor for the Next PAGE program, providing fiduciary oversight and enabling tax-deductible contributions to the program.

We are now piloting an 8-week program in East Harlem.
Why Next PAGE
In this 90-second video, journalist Emily Palmer shares how her work as a crime reporter led her to create a new literacy initiative that meets young people inside New York's detention centers. Instead of just telling their stories, she helps put the pen in their hands— supporting them as they write their own.
